Technology can be an amazing resource for survivors. However, in some situations it can also introduce serious safety risks.
When browsing the internet, data about your activities is stored in your browser history, cache, and cookies. Someone could use this information to track your location or control your behavior. This is especially dangerous for survivors who are visiting resource websites that are worried about the backlash if someone realizes the survivor tried to get help.
Understanding how to clear this data is crucial for safety. This involves knowing how to quickly clear browser history, cache, and cookies on various devices and browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari across desktops, iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches, and Android devices.
There are many ways that someone could use technology to harm a survivor. However, there are actions you can take to lower your risk.
All of the above are just a small selection of the available resources from the National Network to End Domestic Violence's Safety Net Project. If you are concerned about your technology use being monitored you can call our confidential tollfree hotline 1-800-894-3706.
