  • The Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) is in place to facilitate your safety if moving to a new location to escape an abuser. Your address can become public record, which makes it easy for an abuser to find your location. This is eliminated by providing an alternative address to be used for public record.

Technology Safety

Technology can be an amazing resource for survivors. However, in some situations it can also introduce serious safety risks.

When browsing the internet, data about your activities is stored in your browser history, cache, and cookies. Someone could use this information to track your location or control your behavior. This is especially dangerous for survivors who are visiting resource websites that are worried about the backlash if someone realizes they tried to get help.

Understanding how to clear this data is crucial for safety. This involves knowing how to quickly clear browser history, cache, and cookies on various devices and browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari across desktops, iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches, and Android devices.

How to Clear Browser History

There are many ways that someone could use technology to harm a survivor. However, there are things survivors can do to lower their risk.

  • Securing your devices and accounts
  • Survivors' Guide to Location Tracking
  • Tools for Safer Browsing
  • Financial Abuse and Technology
  • Steps to Increase Privacy & Safety Online

All of the above are just a small selection of the available resources from the National Network to End Domestic Violence's Safety Net Project. If you are concerned about your technology use being monitored you can call our confidential tollfree hotline 1-800-894-3706.
